Korean netizens have experienced their discomfort over ILLIT's safety shorts.

Safety shorts, or safety attire, are commonly worn by K-pop idols under their stage outfits. Mostly worn by female idols, safety attite ensures that the idols don't experience a distressing wardrobe malfunction, and prevents unwanted skin from being revealed to the audience as they perform. Usually, it is worn under short bottoms or crop tops.

Safety shorts are usually black. However, some idols wear safety shorts that are colored similarly to their outfits. Usually, it is skin-tight and made of similar fabric to leggings or shapewear.

While it is common in the K-pop industry, many are unhappy with ILLIT's safety shorts.

On May 10, 2024, a post titled "ILLIT's shorts? Safety shorts? Are interesting" was uploaded to the popular South Korean online community forum. The original poster shared several photos of ILLIT performing on stage, with their safety shorts revealed.

ILLIT is known for their dreamlike, youthful concept. This matches the group, as the members' ages range from 16 to 20. This means that for their performances, the member soften and wear flowy and whimsical outfits for their stages.

It seems this extends to their safety shorts. Compared to the typical, black, skintight safety shorts female idols usually wear, ILLIT's safety shorts are looser and poofy. Many commented that it looks like bloomers. The original poster noted that it looked like something Rozen Maiden dolls would wear.

In the comment section, Korean netizens noted their discomfort over this choice. Others noted that bloomers are closely associated with "Lolita" fashion, which is largely criticized for sexualizing childlike behavior and aesthetics. As fans believed it was done to make them look younger, many couldn't help but feel disgusted.
