NBA Trade Rumors: Josh Smith To Sacramento? Kings Want To Lure Rajon Rondo By Taking His High School Pal! Will It Work?

The NBA Trade Rumors continue to run full speed ahead. The Detroit Pistons is one team expected to make big changes, and they should start with Josh Smith.

The Pistons failed to make the playoffs despite having two of the best young centers in the game in Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe. This luxury was deemed to be wasted to lack of chemistry and/or bad coaching.

The Motor City team implemented necessary changes by firing its coach Maurice Cheeks and their GM Joe Dumars for not making the most beneficial moves in the last 4 years. Despite gaining cap space and having great draft picks, Dumars' choice of acquisitions, specifically the overpaid Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings practically crippled the team (and cost Cheeks his coaching job).

Now that they hired former Orlando Magic coach Stan Van Gundy not only as coach but team president, they expect him to turn things around from the ground up. The obvious trade prospect is Josh Smith but SVG could not find any takers for him (obviously). Until now.

ESPN stated that Detroit is now in talks with the Sacramento Kings for a Josh Smith trade:

"Sources say the Kings continue to give the addition of Smith serious consideration, largely because the discussions to date have not required them to part with any players in their long-term plans and would also add a versatile and athletic defender to a roster that badly needs one, given how much Kings coach Mike Malone is known to preach defense.

Kings owner Vivek Ranadive, furthermore, is known to be fond of splashy moves. And trading for Smith, given the lukewarm reviews of his first season with the Pistons, would certainly qualify as bold.

Another potential bonus is Smith's close relationship with Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo, whom Sacramento has been targeting in trade talks for some time.

The Kings, sources say, prefer to trade Terry rather than buy him out of the final year of his contract valued at nearly $6 million, while Terry has said he's interested in a return to the Dallas Mavericks if he's ultimately released and can get to free agency."

The Kings are taking long shots-any shots just to change the team. They were also the only team that was willing to trade for Kevin Love even if he decides not to sign an extension with them. They were also the only team that expressed desire for the previously untradeable Rudy Gay.

It's a big chemistry risk to have DeMarcus Cousins, Josh Smith and Rudy Gay as the frontline, but it just might work out. Stranger things have happened in the NBA, and Rajon Rondo might take his chances here than hold out for the Celtics slow rebuild.
