New York Knicks Roster Missing An Elite Big Man To Run 'Triangle', Would Make A Run For Marc Gasol Next Year?

The New York Knicks roster will look like almost how it was before the off-season.

There were only a few changes in Big Apple, and most of them are for salary cap preparations for upcoming NBA seasons. Ultimately, Knicks president Phil Jackson and company have succeeded in retaining their best player in Carmelo Anthony and New York's best shot at returning to the NBA Finals, at least during his five-year stint.

Aside from Melo, Amare Stoudamire will also see a return with the Knicks, as well as shooting guard J.R. Smith and small forward Iman Shumpert.

The Knicks have also acquired an aging Jose Calderon for his point guard skills and catch and shoot prowess from behind the arc.

However, the team is missing one important piece - a key big man.

Indeed, Stoudamire is a former All Star center/power forward, but his level of play has declined in the past years following his battle against several injuries.

On the other hand, Samuel Dalember whom they have acquired from Dallas via trade for Tyson Chandler is a questionable move since Chandler is certainly better defensively.

With this core of players, some speculations claim that the Knicks are already preparing their salary cap the New York Knicks roster for next off-season where a number of big names would become available in free-agency including LaMarcus Aldridge and Marc Gasol.

As the focal point in a triangle offense, the center or power forward should be a post threat in order to lure double teams, thus freeing other teammates on the floor.

But now that the Knicks are still missing that piece, Anthony could fill that role for the meantime with his iso-heavy plays or try the triangle by posting-up, though that's highly unlikely for him to do.
