Star Trek 3 Release Date Could Be In Jeopardy: No Go Signal From Paramount Pictures Yet Says 'The Amazing Spiderman 2' Scribe Roberto Orci

Star Trek 3 movie release date is supposedly set on the 50th anniversary of the series come 2016, however it seems that fans of the highly anticipated sci-fi franchise would have to wait further.

Roberto Orci, who's reportedly replacing J.J. Abrams in the directorial responsibilities talked to Collider, saying that he's still waiting for Paramount's approval for the sequel.

"Well, I don't want to count my chickens before they hatch. The studio has yet to even read the script. I'm in the middle of writing it, with the talented team of [JohnD.] Payne and [Patrick] McKay. They are true Star Trek fans, as well. So, I can't even think anything about the future until I give them a script and they greenlight it. Until that happens, everything else is just a rumor."

In addition to Abrams' exit, both "Attack the Block" director Joe Cornish and former producer and co-writer Alex Kurtzman are officially out of the project.

However, newbie writers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay will co-write the project with "The Amazing Spiderman 2" director Roberto Orci.

"After an aggressive lobbying campaign, Roberto Orci has emerged as the clear frontrunner to replace JJ Abrams and direct Paramount's third instalment of the 'Star Trek' series," they reveal. "I'm hearing they're in talks... [and] this would amount to another first-time director taking on a massive project."

Previously, Alex Kurtzman announced that he will be dropping out from the movie due to a number of projects that he's committed to do at the moment. Another writer who co-wrote the script of the Star Trek Into Darkness movie, Damon Lindelof will not be returning as well.

"The duo will join Roberto Orci, who co-wrote the first two installments of the reboot with partner Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof. Orci is working without Kurtzman on this one.

The next Star Trek film is untitled and unscheduled, but Paramount and Skydance are hoping to have a film in time for the franchise to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2016. Stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana are expected to return," according to Hollywood Reporter.

With the new writers and rumored director, this could mean that Star Trek 3 movie is in good hands but, they still have to wait for Paramount's approval before gearing up.

What do you think Kpopstarz readers, will new director Roberto Orci reach Star Trek 3 movie target release date?
