Barclay's Premier League: Sydney FC 3-1 West Ham United

Sydney FC 3-1 West Ham United

West Ham United yielded to their second straight defeat on their pre-season tour of New Zealand with a disappointing reverse against Sydney FC in Wellington.

The loss comes in the wake of the Hammers' downfall by Wellington Phoenix and against a side who were beaten 4-0 by Newcastle United four days ago, and compounds a difficult few days for the club after finding out that striker Andy Carroll will be out for four months with an ankle injury that requires surgery.

Alex Brosque's strike and a brace by Corey Gameiro did the hurt on behalf of the A-League side, after Matt Jarvis had briefly reduced the arrears for Sam Allardyce's side with a 50th-minute shot that deflected off Sydney captain Nikola Petkovic and over goalkeeper Vedran Janjetovic.

West Ham United: Adrian (Sam Howes, 81), Guy Demel (Aaron Cresswell, 13), Joey O'Brien (Danny Potts, 72), Winston Reid, James Collins, Mark Noble (Danny Whitehead, 68), Mohamed Diame (Diego Poyet, 68), Kevin Nolan, Stewart Downing (Mathias Fanimo, 81), Matt Jarvis(Ricardo Vaz Te, 59), Carlton Cole (Mauro Zarate, 46).
Goal: Jarvis
