Marvel Doctor Strange Movie Taps Joaquin Phoenix As The 'Sorcerer Supreme' - 'The Hobbit: Battle Of Five Armies' Star Benedict Cumberbatch Reacts

Marvel Doctor Strange movie is actively gearing up in preparation for Marvel Phase Three Cinematic Universe.

Rumors on who's taking on the role of the "Sorcerer Supreme" has been making headlines with Johnny Depp and Benedict Cumberbatch being linked in the film.

However, the latest casting rumor includes Joaquin Phoenix being involved in the upcoming project.

Word has it that Phoenix is now in negotiations with Marvel Studios to work on the upcoming Doctor Strange movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, an insider confirms that Phoenix is nearing to sign on the contract with Marvel.

Meanwhile, another A-list star is who's also being rumored to become the first ever "Sorcerer Supreme" has finally decided to talk and spill the beans.

Benedict Cumberbatch who attended the recently concluded San Diego Comic Con for his upcoming "Penguins of Madagascar" movie has spoken to MTV to clarify the rumors.

"As far as I'm aware, even if that was the case, it couldn't work out because I'm doing a little play called 'Hamlet' in London," he said. "So I don't think I could even if that was in the cards. It sounds like a fantastic project. It's a shame if I miss out, but who knows?"

While, it seems that it would be impossible for Cumberbatch to star in the upcoming Marvel Doctor Strange movie, he refused to comment if Marvel officially offered him the role saying:

"I couldn't possibly comment," he said.

Meanwhile, Marvel president Kevin Feige admitted that bringing Stephen Strange on the big screen will bring interesting changes to Marvel Cinematic Universe, according to an article by Digital Spy.

"I believe it's very, very important for us to explore every nook and cranny of the comic-book universe," Total Film reported during CineEurope event.

"We've done the street-level heroes, and we've done the billionaire superheroes. We've now done the cosmic side with Thor and Avengers and most obviously with [Guardians of the Galaxy}, but there's a whole other side of the Marvel comics, which is that supernatural side - the interdimensional side of the Marvel universe.

"Doctor Strange is, I believe, our entry point into that other realm, which has dozens of characters and storylines all of its own."

Feige continued saying that the Sorcerer Supreme's film is "very, very important" to Marvel's future.

"[This is] a journey of a man who's gone from this very arrogant surgeon to somebody who is quite zen and literally keeps all of reality together on a daily basis, but it also is going to open up a whole other side of storytelling for our movies," he expounded.

Marvel Doctor Strange is scheduled for release on July 8, 2016.
