One Direction singer Liam Payne confronted comments by the media about his rumored weight gain by posting a heartfelt message on Instagram to his two million followers. Liam Payne said that his girlfriend Sophia Smith loves him even though he doesn't look like an "Olympic swimmer."

One Direction singer Liam Payne posted a picture of his Body Mass Index (BMI) to Instagram, proving to fans that he has a "normal weight" with a BMI of 22.8.

"Now just because I'm sick of seeing this everyday so I just want to clear up what the media do to people these days. Is it wrong to be normal? Or do I have to look like an Olympic swimmer just to get your approval into the cool kids or can I accept that the person I truly love thinks I'm the coolest kid in town anyway? Think I'll vote the second one ;) enjoy your day people," Liam captioned the photo.

The day before, Liam stuffed his shirt and posted an Instagram photo with the caption, "I mean OH MY GOD I'm just so fat these days I think I need help! quick someone take the cookie jar"

As we previously reported, rumors of Liam's weight gain caught fuel when he was photographed enjoying a break from One Direction with his girlfriend Sophia Smith and a couple of friends, including Andy Samuels. They lounged on a beautiful yacht in the sunshine of St. Tropez - but the media was quick to spot Liam was looking a little more built than usual. The Daily Mail compared Liam's torso now to the chiseled abs he showed off in Australia back in October 2013. Others speculated his recent lifestyle of heavy drinking, smoking, and partying could be the reason behind his weight gain.

According to Unreality TV, Directioners took to Twitter to defend Liam.

One fan wrote, "Who ever is calling @Real_Liam_Payne fat y'all need to step back chill out an look at yo selves for real shits not cool y'all #LiamIsNotFat"

Another added, "@Real_Liam_Payne Liam you're NOT fat so please PLEASE don't listen to the haters you're perfect just as you are."

One Twitter user wrote, "I'm not saying he's fat or anything, but I think Liam Payne should start exercising again and get his muscle back."
