2014 NBA Free Agency Rumors & Predictions: Ray Allen To LA Clippers? Doc Rivers Recruiting Former Ward! Will NBA's All Time Best Shooter Go West?

The 2014 NBA Free Agency Rumors & Predictions still have some quality names to fill. One of them is Ray Allen, the NBA's all time leading three point shooter. While he's 39 years old, he is still one of the best at what he does. And what he does is useful for any team.

Ray Allen had a long conversation with the Boston Herald, and many familiar names from the Celtics champion team of 2008 are involved. The first question goes straight to the point- is he joining LeBron in Cleveland for his last playing year:

"No. There's so much speculation about me going to Cleveland. I haven't even decided where I will play. Obviously LeBron and I are great friends, and James Jones and I are really close. But at no point have those two tried to push me in that direction. I haven't had that conversation. LeBron and I went on vacation to the Bahamas earlier this summer, and we didn't talk one iota about things. And that was before he made his decision."

He clarifies that it's simply about him as a player and not dependent on another person. It was all just speculation: "It's just what they start talking about on TV - where I'm supposed to go. I have not leaned towards Cleveland. I have not made any mention of going to Cleveland. These last two months were about me physically, and deciding whether I want to play again."

Did he have other suitors? "A lot have called. Doc called earlier in the summer. A lot of teams want to be able to get me at the veteran's minimum. I still have an ego, too. I still have a service to provide, and teams still have to pay me what I feel my presence is worth. I have to take that into consideration, if it's worth putting my body through what it will take over 82 games."

But his final statement pretty much states his preference. Read between the lines and you'll hear that Allen is leaning Westward:

"It will require a perfect storm scenario for me. I'm in great shape, and I'll continue to be in great shape, but I don't want to go to a situation where I don't understand the rhythm of how a coach coaches. He has to be a great coach, a veteran coach."

No coach understood Allen better than Doc Rivers. The emphasis on 'veteran' coach knocks Cleveland out. If Allen were to return, the Clippers are probably the best option for him.
