"Battle of Myeongnyang" Is Second Place For Number Of Theatre Showings

The movie "Battle of Myeongnyang" reached 8 million in box office in a record breaking time.

Recently, "Transformer: Age of Extinction" came in the theatres and hit 5.29 million in the box office. The movie is at 1,602 theatres. The previous Transformers had 7 million, so the Age of Extinction did not do as well.

The "Battle of Myeongnyang" is at 1,586 theatres and had 8 million viewers until August 7. Despite being shown in fewer theatres, the "Battle of Myeongnyang" had more viewers.

Third was "Transformer 3" with 1,409 theatres and 7.8 million viewers. The point made here is that the number of theatres and showings of the movie has no direct ties to the number of viewers of the movie.

Most theatres will say they they will show what the highest demanded movie is, so it's difficult to argue which movies should be shown more.

Currently in Hollywood, a movie is not supposed to take more than 30 percent of the theatre's showings. Korea needs to take into consideration of how they divide the showings of movies in their theatres.
