Rafael Nadal US Open 2014 Announcement On Friday: Outfit Released, Continues Training Regimen Without Splint

Rafael Nadal, after his x-ray scan today, was supposed to decide whether he will take part in U.S. Open 2014. Although Nike Tennis released his outfit today, Rafael Nadal decided to postponed the announcement till Friday or Saturday. Till then, he decided to continue his training regimen without the splint he wears on his wrist. Will the world number two forego the American Major this year?

Rafael Nadal sustained a wrist injury two weeks ago in training. This made him miss not only the Rogers Cup 2014 in Toronto, but also the Cincinnati Masters, often seen as the prep work before the U.S. Open in Flushing, Queens.

The Spaniard’s PR firm made an announcement on Twitter today:

Rafael Nadal’s doctor, Angel Ruiz Cotorro, told Marca that “the images showed what we expected to see. I am neither optimistic nor pessimistic, I’m realistic. Now begins the rehabilitation process and then see on the track”. The real test will be how his training regimen will hold up without the splint. Toni Nadal, Rafael’s uncle and coach, said that “our idea is to train without the splint on Thursday or Friday and Saturday definitely make a decision on whether to fly to New York”. Check out the outfit that Nike Tennis has picked for Rafael Nadal! The Roland Garros champion will be returning to his vintage sleeveless look, which shows off his rather impressive guns. Rafael Nadal transitioned into a sleeved look as he started to climb the WTA rankings in his career. Maybe Nike Tennis is trying to lure Rafael Nadal back into U.S. Open 2014 with this sleeveless treat!

Rafael Nadal, 27, is the defending champion at the U.S. Open.
