YG Is 'Sorry' About WINNER's Debut Even While The Group Tops Global Charts

After an extended delay before debuting his latest idol group, YG Entertainment's CEO has apologized.

Right before WINNER debuted, Yang Hyun Suk had an interview with StarNews and the first words out of his mouth were "I'm sorry." Yang Hyun Suk explained that he was apologizing for the extended postponement of WINNER's debut, even though there was a necessity for it.

"In fact, WINNER's debut was originally scheduled for the beginning of this year, and that was what I told to fans. However, WINNER had to have enough time to write music that can satisfy themselves, as they are a team who writes their own music. That is why WINNER's debut was delayed," Yang Hyun Suk explained.

Fans were increasingly growing frustrated with the delay of WINNER's debut which kept being announced and then further postponed. The group had become incredibly popular thinks to the YG variety show WIN: Who Is Next, where the members of WINNER competed with another team to be the group that YG Entertainment debuted.

"I was very sorry to fans, but I thought it was better for WINNER themselves and fans, too, to produce a quality album despite a delay in their debut," Yang Hyun Suk added. "I would like to ask for your interest in WINNER's debut album, for which YG and WINNER have worked so hard. You know what YG is like, we bet everything on music."

That bet seems to have paid off, since WINNER's debut album and songs went to the top of Korean music charts.

While YG Entertainment has recently been known for groups like Big Bang and 2NE1, which are known for their unique style of dance music, WINNER's debut songs "Empty" and "Color Ring" have a much different style. WINNER has kept number one on six music charts for the three days following the group's debut.
