DESIGN & DISPLAY

When it comes to portability, the MacBook Air is the clear-cut winner. Available in 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch sizes, the Air has the smallest Apple laptops in the market. Not only that, the 11.6-inch model is the lightest one with only 1.08 kg. Meanwhile, the MacBook Pro with Retina display sports larger bodies with a 13.3-inch and 15.6-inch model available. Its 13.3-inch model is heavier than the Air at 1.57 kg.

But when it comes to screen quality, there is no question that the MacBook Pro Retina takes the cake. The Air's smaller model has the lowest resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, while its 13.3-inch model sports 1440 x 900 pixels. They are still good for simple daily tasks and web browsing. On the other hand, the MacBook Pro 13.3-inch has a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels and the 15.4-inch model sports a whopping 2880 x 1800 pixel resolution.

If you're a heavyweight user who needs Apple for video editing or hardcore gaming, then the MacBook Pro Retina is just for you. But if you're a traveller or you use laptops for typing or simple browsing, then the Air will do just fine.

PERFORMANCE

The MacBook Air gives you a choice between a 1.4GHz dual-core Core i5 or a dual-core i7 processor. Its RAM is configurable up to 8GB, while the maximum storage size is 512GB SSD. Basically, it provides sound performance, as long as it doesn't involve hard core graphic applications.

The MacBook Pro with Retina display, on the other hand, packs a stronger punch under the hood. Its 13.3-inch model is powered by a 2.4GHz dual-core i5 processor, and is configurable to a dual-core i7 chip that clocks at 2.8GHz. Its 15.4-inch model is powered by a quad-core i7 processor, with your option to choose 2GHz, 2.3GHz or 2.6GHz chips.

Overall, the two Apple laptops offer stellar design, display, and performance. The only question is: Which one fits your needs?
