Girls’ Generation Rewrites K-pop History In Japan Again

K-pop group Girls' Generation is dominating the K-pop scene in Japan once again.

The popular girl group topped the Oricon Music Chart in Japan for its fourth consecutive week with their recent album "The Best," according to the Korean publication Naver.

Girls' Generation began gaining mainstream success in Japan back in 2011 with their tour.

"Thanks to the love and support from our fans, we were able to achieve the level of success we have now. I think the experience we've gained from our Japanese tour made us grow tremendously," member Tiffany told Complex Magazine back in 2011.

The love and support for the girl group from Japanese fans has only grown even more since then.

Their latest album, which is a compilation of the Japanese versions of their 18 best tracks, was released on July 23 and has since sold a shocking number of copies. 9,075 copies of "The Best" were sold between August 11 and 17 alone.

During the first week of its release, 74,921 copies of the top album were sold, helping Girls' Generation come in at No. 1 on the Oricon Music Chart. The nine-member idol group was seen ranking at No. 1 until the third week since the album's release.

The ranking started to drop from the week of August 4 to 10, with Girls' Generation coming in at No. 5. Last week, the all-female group ranked at No. 7.

Girls' Generation is the first K-pop group to rank in the top 10 for four weeks in a row in Japan. The members performed for a total of 200,000 local fans in the course of their recent tour in Japan, where they visited seven major cities, holding a total of 17 concerts.

Despite the many notable milestones in their careers, including winning the video of the year award at the first YouTube Music Awards ceremony, Girls' Generation is all about remaining humble.

"I wouldn't say we changed because of the success. But as a whole, since we went on tours, and done so many performances, I could humbly say our live performance games has gotten much better," explained Sooyoung.
