Miley Cyrus Twerking No More? 'Wrecking Ball' Star Shows Off Demure New Look AT VMA Red Carpet, Says She's 'Retwired' The Dance Move.

It looks like Miley Cyrus may have just reinvented herself once again. The ‘Wrecking Ball’ singer just showed up to the MTV VMA red carpet in a relatively toned down leather ensemble of draped black pants and a bandeau, wearing her pixie-cut hair neatly combed. This is quite a departure from Cyrus’ memorable arrival at last year’s show, which took place onstage when she emerged from giant teddy bear, and proceeded to strip down to a skimpy bikini and twerk her way onto fellow singer Robin Thicke. This year, the singer also told pre-show hosts Lucy Hale and Sway that she has “retwired” the dance move. Could Cyrus be the new Cher of image transformation?

The singer’s performance last year certainly got people talking, particularly since she had originally rose to fame in the role of ‘Hannah Montana,’ on the family friendly Disney Channel TV show. At the time, many saw the star’s makeover as a means to signify that she was no longer a tween, a move that may have been necessary since her fan base was also growing up.

Cyrus’ bad girl image did, however, draw a fair amount of criticism, particularly from those who felt the singer was setting a bad example for her younger fans. When her album, Bangerz dropped following the awards show, some angry parents in the US and Canada went as far as to lobby for the cancelation of her accompanying concert tour. That effort was unsuccessful, but earlier this month it was announced that the pop star’s show had been banned from Dominican Republic, due to “acts that go against morals and customs.”

Maybe Cyrus is ready to turn a new leaf, now that she has proven her point that she is no longer a child; or maybe she just got tired of all the backlash. Either way, we appear to be witnessing the dawn of a brand new Miley Cyrus.
