‘Captain America 3' Rumors: Spider Man Team Up Possible? Directors Tease About 'Crossover With Characters From Different Studios'

"Captain America 3" is already slated for May 6, 2016 after Marvel won the 'battle of the release dates.' After the success of "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" sky's the limit on the possibilities for the next installment.

The directors of CA:TWS, Joe and Anthony Russo, are already hard at work in preparing the movie. Marvel showed a lot of confidence with them as they were already signed for Cap 3 even before the second installment was shown. They were also given the shot to take on Warner/DC's flagship movie.

However, in an interview with Cinema Blend, the directing duo admitted that they never saw the showdown actually happening:

Joe Russo: "We knew it was never going to happen. We knew those two films would never stay on that date. So we knew somebody was going to move."

Russo also mentioned that we are living in a unique and unprecedented era of comic book movies!

"We're filmmakers. But we're also comic-book geeks and movie fans. so we wish success on everybody! Now that we're in the sort of heyday of comic-book films, you don't want anybody sort of spoiling the party. This summer was actually great because boy did we get treated to some pretty great movies this summer. So you keep hoping that's the case moving forward.

And I think you can't hide anymore. You have got to show up with a great movie, or you are screwed. I think you are finding that it's happening less and less, that something that is not that good is doing very well. It's forcing everyone's hand, and really pushing people to do very good work."

Now speaking of good work, how do you top something like "The Winter Soldier" which was hailed as the best Marvel movie ever (or even the best superhero movie ever)?

Cinema Blend asked about an increased role for Hawkeye in the sequel and Joe Russo admonished him to 'not stop there.' Russo has grander things in mind-to wit:

"Listen, when I started collecting, The Secret Wars was one of the first books I ever bought, so that's always been an obsession of mine to see something of that scale done - a crossover. I don't know if that would ever be possible, with all the different situations at the studios. But I would love to see a lot of characters on screen together."

Even the slightest hope of a crossover is enough to inspire any Marvel fan. There are so many storylines that they can bring to the big screen (the oft-rumored Civil War at the forefront). Spider Man remains the best possibility given the rumored animosity between Marvel and Fox.  Also, Sony is seeing a decline in the Spider Man franchise and a crossover would serve their interest more than Fox.

Of course, it is not confirmed at all, but the idea that it has not been shut down is good enough for now.
