5 Ways That 'Mamacita' Teasers Highlight Super Junior’s Style

Super Junior recently began comeback promotions for "Mamcita," the group's first Korean release in two years.

Even though the group has yet to release the music video or full album, the samples released so far show that Super Junior's "Mamacita" is keeping the group's usual characteristics, despite being out of the Korean spotlight.

Catchy Dance

"Sorry Sorry" was the song that launched Super Junior into the top tier of K-Pop groups, but it was the dance that really caught the attention of the world. The "Sorry Sorry" dance, with its repetitive, yet seemingly simple appearance, made "Sorry Sorry" so appealing, and the dance teaser for "Mamacita" makes it apparent that Super Junior is once again aiming for another engaging dance.

The teaser shows that "Mamacita" will have a "head-tapping" dance, which is sure to gain a lot of attention.

Chorus Hook

Just about every K-Pop song has a catchy, addicting hook, but the catchier and more addicting, the better. Just as "Sorry Sorry" had a catchy dance, it's memorable chorus set the tone for Super Junior- repetition is one of the most common aspects in all of Super Junior's title songs.

The song is officially called "Mamacita (AYAYA)," and the hook is definitely "ayaya." The trailer is only thirty seconds long, but the refrain "ayaya" is heard multiple times.

Style

Super Junior's proven time and time again that its promotional concept and promotional pictures are very different, and "Mamacita" is proving no different. When most idol groups release promotional pictures, they reveal the group's concept. However, Super Junior has a history of releasing seemingly over the top, ridiculous concept pictures, and then promoting in much more stylish outfits- usually suits.

Holding with its usual path, Super Junior released promo photos that depict the members as cowboys and bullfighters. The group also released a music video teaser that showed each member acting as a character in Western, ranging from sheriff to gambler to thief.

Only after there was some speculation over the concepts did Super Junior release additional sets of pictures that showed the members in much more contemporary outfits. In the dance teaser, Super Junior performs in suits that are slightly more outlandish than a typical suit, but much more regular.

Humor

The aforementioned video teaser for "Mamacita" that had the Super Junior members acting out the characters of a Western highlights Super Junior's typical lighthearted attitude. The group is made up of members that have thrived on variety shows as gagmen and MCs, and have regularly performed in drag and dressed up as super heroes publicly.

The group doesn't take itself too seriously, so even though the Western concept seemed a bit outlandish, it is a welcome reminder that Super Junior is a group that performs its songs seriously but also knows when to laugh at itself.

Large Fanbase

While the teasers themselves have shown that Super Junior's retained its identity after two years, the two teasers and highlight medley have proved something else: The fans still support Super Junior.

Within two days of the first video being released, it had over 1 million views. Combined, the three videos have well over 2 million hits on YouTube. Even though Super Junior is an older idol group and there is always the fear that older groups will lose their fans to newer ones, Super Junior still attracts millions of fans.
