Super Junior Doesn't Think EXO Is A Rival

Even though it has been two years after its latest Korean comeback, Super Junior isn't worried about EXO filling the void.

On August 28, Super Junior released its first Korean music video in two years, "Mamacita." Within 48 hours, the music video had surpassed more than 2 million views. Prior to the release, the group spoke about its comeback at a press conference. There, the group spoke about the song, album, and addressed worries that SM Entertainment's newer group EXO may be overtaking Super Junior's reign as the most popular megagroup in Korea.

Leeteuk, the leader of the group, discussed the meaning of the title track. "Mamacita." "The term 'mamacita' has many different meanings actually... but in English it can be thought of like, 'she sis gorgeous,'" he explained, according to the Korea Herald.  "The basic concept of this album is having our musical components and especially, this time around, to feel as though we have come back as handsome, real men. I think the past 10 years we have always been trying to tackle the concept of being manly."

Rapper Eunhyuk added, "this time it is true. We are back as real men now."

The "Mamacita" concept included the members acting out a Western-style comedy in the music video.

Addressing the dangers of leaving the Korean music scene to newer, younger acts, Leeteuk said that Super Junior didn't feel at all threatened by SM Entertainment's latest hit group, EXO.

Both SM Entertainment mega-groups have seen their share of member issues, with high profile lawsuits when international members Han Geng (Super Junior) and Kris (EXO) withdrew. The connection between the two groups, as well as EXO's perceived threat to Super Junior, is often discussed, but Super Junior made it clear that the newer group is not its rival.

"Are we worried about EXO stealing our fans? No, fans have their own freedom to choose. We don't feel as though we are in any danger, rather we are very proud...."

Eunhyuk continued the thought, "Both EXO and Super Junior have their own separate paths, so we think of it as a win-win for both of us."

Super Junior's full "Mamacita" album was released on August 29, and the group is holding a three-day Super Show concert in Seoul at the end of September.
