Kanye West Confronts Jay Pharaoh After 2014 VMA Spoof: ‘Bound’ Rapper Says His Interracial Marriage To Kim Kardashian ‘Is Not A Joke’

Jay Pharoah's impressions during the VMAs might have spurred some laughs, but not everyone was amused. Kanye West revealed at this weekend's that he confronted Pharoah after the SNL comedian's Kimye spoof to express his discontent with the joke.

West also used the opportunity to address the cultural importance of his public interracial relationship with wife Kim Kardashian.

"I created television! Can't nobody else do that Matt Lauer," joked Pharoah at the 2014 VMAs. "I didn't even get an award even though everything I do is genius. My videos cure ALS, y'all! I don't need to do no ice bucket challenge!"

"Me and Kim are bigger than the Clintons fam. We so next level, we named our daughter North West after an airline that no longer exists," Pharoah also quipped.

"I would just like to say, my wife is the smartest human being on the planet," the comedian added towards the end of the skit, clearly mocking Kardashian, who sat in the award show crowd with sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner.

And Kanye was not pleased.

The rapper addressed the situation at this weekend's Made In America festival in Philadelphia. West ranted to the crowd about the VMA spoof, saying:

"They want to make a joke out of how hard we work. It's fine and all funny and everything, but don't distract from our vision. It's not a joke what we do up here. This music that we do is not a joke. What we do culturally is not a joke."

Specifically taking on the skit's comedian, West continued:

"I called Jay Pharoah right after the MTV awards. I said, 'I appreciate your show, but let me tell you about my story. Let me tell you about what I went through to get to that position' ... So we ain't gonna have no black comedians going onstage spoofing the people that's working hard, and helping the next man out."

The "Bound" rapper then got political, expressing his displeasure with the way the media portrays his interracial marriage to Kardashian.

"For me to be in a very publicized interracial relationship is not a joke," explained West, adding, "It's something that should be treated with respect cause we're all in this together."

During the hip-hop star's performance, he also took on the subject of the media industry, including MTV host Sway and Power 105's Charlamagne Tha God. West told the crowd, "I got love for Sway, I got love for Charlamagne, I got love for all these people. Anybody in the media, all the tabloid covers. I know everybody's doing their job, but before we go to the next song I want people to realize that what we do, we put our love, our heart, our pain, our story, our lives into it. 3 a.m. every night in the studio for this."
