Samsung Gear Solo Release Date, Pictures, Specs, And News: New Smartwatch Will Not Need Phone To Make Calls, To Be Released Alongside Galaxy Note 4 At IFA 2014 Next Month[PHOTO]

The Samsung Gear Solo has a release date. Check out the price and specs for the first ever smartwatch capable of making and taking calls without a cell phone. 

The Samsung Gear S will go on sale in October.  Gear S runs the Tizen OS. It also comes preinstalled with Nokia's HERE Maps app and the Financial Times' fastFT app. The Samsung Gear S will be available in black or white, and has a 2in curved screen, which allows it to fit comfortably around the wrist.

The down side to being able to make and take calls is a much shorter battery life, that only lasts about 2 days according to Samsung.

Other features include a heart-rate scanner and, according to Sammobile, a UV sensor. The Gear S will run a 1GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM and have 4GB of internal storage. The Samsung Gear S offers IP67-rated dust- and waterproof protection. 

Korean newspaper The Chosun Ilbo reports that Samsung intends to unveil the Gear Solo watch at the big IFA conference in September. The report claims that Samsung will target people that do not to keep a phone handy, but remain connected to the world, outdoor and sporting enthusiasts mostly.
