Shonen Knife Is Coming To Brooklyn; Japanese Punk Band Will Hit the Stage at Knitting Factory [VIDEO]
Shonen Knife, the all-girl Ramones cover band turned J-rock stars, will rock the Knitting Factory, 361 Metropolitan Ave, Brooklyn, N.Y. on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. The Knitting Factory gig is part of the band's North American world tour promoting "Overdrive," the band's 19th studio album which was released in North America via Good Charamel.
Shonen Knife was the first an all-female Japanese pop punk band. They opened for Nirvana for the grunge act's first U.K. tour. Shonen Knife is comprised of Naoko Yamano on guitar and vocals, Ritsuko Taneda on bass and vocals and Emi Morimoto on drums and vocals. The band is adding original member Atsuko Yamano for the tour.
Probably best known in America for writing and performing "Buttercup (I'm Super Girl)," the closing theme of the animated hit superhero series "The Power Puff Girls," Shonen Knife have been hitting concert stages since 1981.
The trio from Osaka will perform their 1,000th show on September 16 at The Turf Club in St. Paul, Minn. The band are commemorating the milestone by asking fans for requests.
