‘Orange Is The New Black’ Writer Divorces Husband And Begins Dating Actress On The Show

Sometimes life imitates art and vice versa. Lauren Morelli, a writer for "Orange Is the New Black," reportedly filed for divorce from her husband after realizing she was gay while penning the hit Netflix series.

The writer is now allegedly dating actress Samira Wiley, who portrays Poussey on the show.

Morelli, who began writing for "Orange Is the New Black" five months after she wed Steve Basilone, announced that she was gay in May, coming out in a deeply personal essay for Identities.Mic.

In the article, Morelli explained that she came to understand and accept her sexuality through working on the popular series, which features several lesbian characters.

"I was nervous about the first love scene I'd written for Alex and Piper," wrote Morelli in the Identities.Mic essay. "I'd loved writing it, loved watching a tenderness emerge in their relationship where passion always seemed to be the ruling principle, but by that time, I was so deep in my own self-doubt that I constantly felt like a fraud. I was sure it was bleeding into my writing. How could it not? I was married to a man, but I wasn't straight."

The writer added, "In Piper and Alex, I'd found a mouthpiece for my own desires and a glimmer of what my future could look like."

Morelli and Basilone recently filed for divorce. According to TMZ, the split was amicable. Basilone will allegedly receive his ex's Lexus, apartment, and sapphire engagement ring.

After announcing her plan to divorce, Morelli is also believed to have moved on with actress Samira Wiley.

The writer posted a picture of herself with Wiley just before the 2014 Emmy Awards in August, where "Orange Is the New Black" received nine nominations.

"Dressed and ready to go at an absurdly early hour for the Emmys!!! #netflixemmyspartybus," she captioned the photo.

According to Us Weekly, Morelli and Wiley were seen holding hands and dancing at several after parties on Emmy night.
