Apple iPhone 6 Record Sales: 4 Million iPhones Sold in 24 Hours; Supply Outstripped Due To Demand [PHOTO]

Time Magazine reports that Apple's iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have broken all previous iPhone preorder sales records, selling 4 million units in just 24 hours. The new phones went on sale Friday, September 12 and sold out very quickly.

Apple CEO Tim Cook stated, "The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are better in every way, and we are thrilled customers love them just as much as we do... Pre-orders for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus set a new record for Apple, and we can't to get our best iPhones yet into the hands of customers starting this Friday."

That's right, many customers will be able to receive their new phones starting Friday, September 19. However, demand has been so high for the phones that it has outstripped supply to the extent that only a "significant" number of people will receive their phones on that date. Many other customers will likely have to wait until October to receive theirs.

The Verge reports that Apple's impressive sales come after a frustrating pre-order process that revealed that iPhone 6 Plus devices are in short supply. However, Apple is trying to set aside certain quantities of their new products in stores so that "walk-in-customers" will still have a shot at grabbing one when they are released on the 19th at 8am local time.

According to Time Magazine, Apple is encouraging customers to arrive early or simply order from the Apple Online Store and pickup their purchases on site. Furthermore, Apple is allocating an unknown number of phones to carriers such as AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, and "select Apple Authorized Resellers."

TechCrunch reports that countries launching the iPhone on the 19th include the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, and the UK. The following week, Apple will open up sales to 20 additional countries, including Denmark, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, and the UAE, just to name a few.
