Scotland Independence Poll 2014: James McAvoy, Andy Murray And Sean Connery Vote Yay, Ewan McGregor, JK Rowling And Emma Thompson Says Nay For Scottish Referendum

Scotland decides today! Scots will head into the poll today and vote either for the independence or against. Politicians from north and south of the island have laid out their agendas to sway the Scots’ votes, but today the people of Scotland will decide! Read on to see how your favorite Scottish celebrity (James McAvoy, Andy Murray, Sean Connery, Ewan McGregor, JK Rowling and Emma Thompson).

James McAvoy told the Wall Street Journal that he will support Scotland “no matter what way they vote”.

“I just hope that my country follows its heart and its gut rather than listening to redundant political debate. If you vote one way or another because you believe in some political promise, five or 10 years from now it’s going to be a new guy in that chair with a different political agenda — and you have voted to change your country forever because of a semi-permanent promise made by some guy who may or may not deliver.

“Unification or separation will last forever, whatever you decide, and these political promises will not,” he concluded.

‘X-Men’ James McAvoy, born, bred and educated in Scotland, is a big supporter of his country.

Andy Murray, the Wimbledon champion, also is a vehement lover of Scotland independence. He tweeted to show support and to encourage his Scottish fans to vote yay.

Brits are famous for calling Andy Scottish when he loses and British when he wins. He would like to be just plain old Scottish, thank you very much.

Another Scot in favor of Scottish referendum is Sean Connery. You kind of have to when you have a “Scotland Forever’ tattoo. According to New Statesman, he said that he would move back to homeland if it gains its independence, saying that “the opportunity of independence is too good to miss.”

So who opposes the secession? Ewan McGregor, whose ancestors were evicted from Scotland due to their separatist beliefs, didn’t display the passion for Scotland that his forefathers did.

According to the Daily Mail, Ewan McGregor said that he loves Scotland, “But I also like the idea of Great Britain, and I don’t know that it wouldn’t be a terrible shame to break it all up.”

The English, who have the rights to vote on the Scottish referendum due to their residency, are also opposed to it. JK Rowling, the famous author of ‘Harry Potter’ series declared that independence is not a good idea.

“The more I listen to the yes campaign, the more I worry about its minimization and even denial of risks,” wrote JK Rowling on her website.

The author of ‘Harry Potter’ currently lives in Edinburgh.

“Meanwhile, dramatically differing figures and predictions are being slapped in front of us by both campaigns, so that it becomes difficult to know what to believe. If we leave, though, there will be no going back.”

So think carefully, Scotland. Harry Potter is watching you.

Emma Thompson, the feminist goddess who is half Scottish, also expressed wishy-washy-ness over the Scotland independence poll.

“England was so awful to Scotland,” she told a Spanish television channel, but added that erecting new borders in a shrinking world was not the answer, according to the New York Times.
