Led Zeppelin To Counter Stairway To Heaven Lawsuit; Motion To Have The Case Dismissed Filed

The Led Zeppelin "Stairway To Heaven" lawsuit filed against the legendary rock band's members were addressed by the group.

After claiming that the iconic song infringed the copyrights of Randy Craig Wolfe, the Led Zeppelin "Stairway To Heaven" lawsuit was finally filed in Pennsylvania. But the members of the band are reportedly not taking it lightly and have already motioned for the case to be dismissed or moved.

The lawsuit filed in June claimed that Wolfe, who was a member of the band Spirit, wrote a song called "Taurus" in the 1960s. He later worked with the band when they opened for Spirit's tour in the late 60s. That was reportedly when Jimmy Page got the idea for he band's most popular and well-loved hit.

While the lawsuit will, perhaps, answer age-old questions of whether or not Page ripped off Wolfe's idea or truly created the song from the recesses of his mind, the band maintained that there is no point to push through with a trial.

The motion to dismiss the case was reportedly filed in the account that Page, Plant and the other members of the band are British.

"The individual defendants are British citizens residing in England, own no property in Pennsylvania and have no contacts with Pennsylvania, let alone ties sufficient to render them essentially at home here," said the motion. "Under the established case law, no good faith basis exists to argue the Court has general jurisdiction over them."

The case was filed by Michael Skidmore, the trustee for the Wolfe trust.

According to the motion, while the case was initially asked to be dismissed by the band, they are also reportedly willing to settle for a move to California. The reason for the suggested move was that potential witnesses reside in the area and books and records that can be used in investigating the case can also be found there.

While it appears that the Led Zeppelin "Stairway To Heaven" lawsuit still has a long time to roll out, the band continues on with projects. A "Led Zeppelin IV" compilation is slated to be released on October 28.
