U.S. Remake Of 'My Love From The Stars' Prompts Other Series Adaptations?
The popularity of the Korean rom-com series "My Love From The Stars" has yet to end.
Following reports that a Chinese movie adaptation of the film will be happening, it has now been revealed that an American remake of the series is in the works as well, according to the Korean publication Naver.
"The network has handed out a script commitment with a penalty attached to a remake of the Korean hit," wrote The Hollywood Reporter.
"My Love From The Stars" is about a love story between an alien, who landed on earth 400 years ago, and one of the top actresses in modern-day Korea, according to the media outlet Yonhap News.
Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain, who wrote on CW's "The 100," "666 Park Avenue," "The Vampire Diaries," "Dollhouse," will reportedly be writing the ABC adaption and executive produce. Ji-eun Park, creator of the original series, is set to executive produce as well.
The ABC adaptation of the Korean series will be produced by HB Entertainment, the company that owns the original format, and EnterMedia Contents in association with Sony Pictures Television.
The names of the two leads will be changed to James and Lark. James was originally played by actor Kim Soo Hyun while actress Jun Ji Hyun took on the role of Lark.
"My Love From The Stars" has gained attention internationally and has been responsible for spreading Korean foods and culture. The series had even been discussed amongst officials in China, according to Variety.
"My Love From The Stars" is only one of the latest Korean series to be adapted in the U.S. CBS is reportedly teaming up with EnterMedia to develop a medical drama based on the Korean series "Good Doctor" while NBC is preparing an unscripted show based on the variety series "Grandpas Over Flowers."
Although adaptations of various Korean series are in the works, "My Love From The Stars" has gained the most attention thus far.
"We've been prepared for the U.S. remake of the drama since February, and we're thankful for getting this opportunity," Moon Bo-mi, head of HB Entertainment, stated in a press release.
