Apple iOS 8 'Wave' Lets You Wirelessly Charge Your iPhone In One Minute Using 'Microwave Technology'?

An internet hoax has been going around the internet claiming that you can charge the new iPhone 6 faster by, get this, putting it in the microwave!

The idea sounds absurd, obviously but what's incredible is that some people actually believed it! Safe to say they were pretty disappointed to find out that the new feature was nothing but a hoax.

The idea apparently came from the message board Reddit on the topic of "microwave charging", as posted by the user 4chan Yup, the same netizen who started the rumor that updating to iO7 will make your iPhone waterproof.

4chan created a fake production description on the phone, which included a claim that the new iPhone 6 can be charged by putting it in the microwave.

The new feature, called "Wave" technology was said to be Apple's "latest and greatest addition to iOS8". We must admit the ad looks pretty convincing. The new feature supposedly allows devices to be charged wirelessly through "microwave frequencies".

The ad claims that your new iPhone 6 will be fully charged in as fast 60 seconds. No wonder people had been eager to try the supposed "feature". It even jokingly warns: "60 seconds at 700w or 70 seconds at 800w. Do not Wave-charge for over 300 seconds."

Thankfully Huffington Post has advised people who are actually considering this potential recharging method:

"Let us be very clear here: Do. Not. Put. Your. Phone. In. A. Microwave," the report noted. "Despite the sleek Apple-esque design of the explainer for the "feature," there are a couple telltale signs that this image is fake. One, there's no 'I' in front of 'Wave.' Duh. Two, on what Earth would it be a good idea to put a hunk of metal in a microwave?"

Yup, in reality this is what happens when you put your phone in the microwave:
