Daredevil Netflix Production Underway, Preview Cast, Release Date, All Of Marvel's The Defenders Will Get Their Own Season, Possible Avengers Crossover To Come Later [PHOTO]

Netflix has ordered a "Daredevil" show, here is everything currently known about the production, cast, and plot.

"Daredevil" has already been cast with Charlie Cox in the title role of Matt Murdock. AlsoVincent D'Onofrio ("Law and Order: Criminal Intent," "Men In Black") has also been cast as the nemesis Kingpin.Rosario Dawson is also expected to appear in the first episode.

Production is already underway. "Daredevil" is not expected to debut on Netflix until 2015. The remaining "Defenders" (Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage) and their expected TV series are also expected to be introduced over a one-year period, MoviePilot reported.

Marvel and Netflix are teaming up to bring product bringing the heroes of "The Defenders" to the small screen. "The Defenders" superhero team includes Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. Each superhero has been greenlit for a 13-episode season.

Compared to The Avengers, The Defenders are a smaller scale, more, realistic (as much as that word can apply to super heros), darker, less family-oriented team.

Netflix's Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said,"What we love about this particular set of heroes is that they're a little more down to Earth. Costume wise and also in that these are gritty crime stories, more in the streets than in the clouds," Sarandos said, MoviePilot reported.

The four characters' seasons will eventually culminate into one big show with "The Defenders," LA Times reported. If "The Defenders" is successful, then it can be brought to the big screen.

While "Daredevil" is going into production, that leaves the rest of the team and their roles up for grabs. At the moment, however, Jessica Jones is the next superhero of "The Defenders" scheduled to go into production, Empire reported.

"Right now, the writers' rooms are open and they're looking at casting Jessica," Sarandos said. "Eventually the series will run very close together. You can then have a separate season where the characters will cross over."

Daredevil has been filming in New York this summer for a few weeks already, and a few set photos are already making he rounds.

In a move that makes perfect sense, Sarandos spoke of how the project would use what Marvel did with The Avengers as a template.

"It was really based on the theatrical model of the Avengers. Could you take another group of characters, the Defenders, and go about it the same way?

"Normally they do the big movie and then eventually they get to the group origin story. Having 13 hours to tell each of these stories, you can go right to the origin story and the action at the same time."

"It has definitely been talked about," he said when quizzed about crossover potential.

Netflix series, and he's clearly given considerable thought to what he thinks can and should work in Daredevil's world. In a new interview, he revealed a little more about the tone of the show, and what their vision for Matt Murdock and Daredevil is.

"...we wanted it to be grounded, gritty, as realistic as we could portray...He's not super strong. He's not invulnerable. In every aspect, he's a man that's just pushed himself to the limits, he just has senses that are better than a normal humans. He is human. The other thing that really drew me to this character is that he's one of the most morally grey of the heroes."

"There are two sides to this character. He's literally one bad day away from becoming the The Punisher! Frank Castle went just a little bit further than he did. Daredevil has no qualms about beating the hell out of somebody. He's not going to tie them up with his webs! He'll come close to killing somebody. And it's that fine edge-Why doesn't he go all the way?"

Again, Daredevil stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock and Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson "The Kingpin" Fisk. It should arrive in May of 2015. After Daredevil, expect Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders to follow.
