Leonardo DiCaprio Joins Instagram! Actor Posts First Photos On Social Media Site While Addressing The 2014 UN Climate Change Summit

Leonardo DiCaprio just upped Instagram's cool factor on Tuesday by joining the social media site.

The star of "The Wolf of Wall Street" launched an account on the site and immediately began posting photos from the 2014 UN Climate Summit where he joined world leaders in discussing the very serious global issue.

DiCaprio, who was recently named the United Nations Messenger of Peace, appears to be using Instagram to bring awareness to the important work being done during the Summit, which is being held in New York City.

In his first ever Instagram photo, the 39-year-old actor posed with Ban Ki-moon, the Secretary General of the United Nations.

"Today, I have the privilege to speak at the United Nations #Climate2014 Summit where world leaders are expected to announce the bold steps they will take to tackle climate change. Thank you Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon," wrote DiCaprio.

The "Inception" star also shared a photo of President Obama speaking to the crowd of world leaders and environmental activists.

"Watching President Obama deliver a strong statement and commitment to #Climate2014. @BarackObama," DiCaprio captioned the snap.

The star has become known as a champion of environmental conservation. He has raised awareness and promoted public action through his organization, the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation.

According to the foundation's website, its mission is "dedicated to protecting Earth's last wild places and implementing solutions that create a harmonious relationship between humanity and the natural world."

During the Summit on Tuesday, DiCaprio also caught up with former Vice President Al Gore, whose 2006 documentary "An Inconvenient Truth, helped propel the issue of climate change into the consciousness of many Americans.

"Ran into this #climatechange pioneer at the @unitednations this morning. Thank you Vice President Gore. #Climate2014 #latergram momentforaction.org," DiCaprio captioned the photo.

The "Titanic" star later posted a photo of him protesting with a group, which included actor Mark Ruffalo and Onondaga Leader Oren Lyons. DiCaprio held up a sign that read "100% for the Planet!"

"With @MarkRuffalo & Oren Lyons at the People's #ClimateMarch for 100% renewable energy for the #100percent. #MomentForAction #IndigenousPeoples #latergram," DiCaprio wrote alongside the pic.

So, Leo's dedication of his new Instagram account to environmental activism not only gives fans a glimpse (if only the tiniest) into his life off-screen, it also gives the world yet another reason to swoon over the globally conscious heartthrob.
