Scandal-Inspired Clothing Line Launched; Kerry Washington: 'I've Fallen In Love With Design'

A "Scandal"-inspired clothing line was launched in time for the series' return on Thursday.

The "Scandal" clothing line, made in partnership with retailer The Limited, was released on Tuesday, two days before the show's new season premiere.

The clothes which were heavily inspired by Kerry Washington's character on the show Olivia Pope was released both online and in stores.

Washington worked with the drama's costume designer Lyn Paolo and Limited's head designer Elliot Staples in designing the collection.

In an interview with WWD, Washington shared her delight in having been part of the project. "It was thrilling for me," she said. "I've fallen in love with design, from picking buttons and zippers to choosing fabrics. It would be fun to design something on my own. I've been bitten by the design bug."

Washington also described how she and her collaborators got inspired to do the collection.

"The collection is a nod to our devoted fans, to fans of fashion, and to women everywhere who are inspired to boldy pursue their passions and look good while doing it," she added. "By creating a line inspired by the show, we are introducing a collection that embodies the elegance and power of the 'Scandal' aesthetic for real-life gladiators and everyday fashionistas."

During the collection's press launch, Washington explained how the line gives women access to Olivia Pope's style without needing to break the bank. "There are women who can literally afford to dress like Olivia Pope, and I don't know how, because those clothes are very, very, very expensive," she said. "There are other people who can't, and there is no reason why only the people who make a certain amount of money should have access to this feminine power in fashion, you know?"

The 79-piece collection, which was described as "aspirational" and "feminine," ranges in price from $49 to $248.

"Women often feel that they have to be either smart or beautiful, powerful or pretty, either fashion-forward or successful," said Washington in a promotion. "[The 'Scandal'] clothing line says you can be all of those things. You can be fabulous and fearless."
