Five '90s Songs EXO Should Cover For 'EXO 90:2014'

EXO has introduced a new generation to the classic sounds of ‘90s Korean pop with their Mnet program “EXO 90:2014.”

The group has covered songs from hitmakers including H.O.T, Shinhwa, and Fly to the Sky. The program which is also known as “K-Pop Time Slip” will explore the dance music of DJ DOC, Koyote, and Clon for the September 26 episode.

EXO has only touched upon the extensive catalog of K-Pop releases. Here are five ‘90s songs and music videos that should be explored on “EXO 90:2014.”

Five songs from the 1990s that should be covered on “EXO 90:2014.”

Seo Taiji and The Boys “I Know”

Seo Taiji and The Boys “I Know” was one of the longest running hit singles in Korea. The 1992 release featured the soaring vocals of Seo Taiji along with the quick-footed choreography. “I Know” withstands the test of time more than twenty years later but the music video could use a modern interpretation.

Deux “Look Back At Me”

Hip hop duo Deux were pioneers of the nineties rap dance movement through their incorporation of street dance moves during performances and sampling of American ‘80s hip hop. Deux delivered their interpretation of American hip hop with the song “Look Back At Me” in 1993 for “Inkigayo.”

Park Jin Young “Kiss Me”

Park Jin Young (JYP) sampled the Stevie Wonder song “Superstition” for the 1998 release “Kiss Me.” “Kiss Me” featured a wonderfully quirky music video which would be apropos for Halloween.

Jinusean “How Deep Is Your Love”

Jinusean’s 1999 hip hop take on the Bee Gee’s 1977 song “How Deep Is Your Love” not only reinvents the song but demonstrates their hip hop competency.

Tae Jin Ah “Mother”

EXO’s Suho, Sehun, and Chanyeol appeared with trot legend Tae Jin Ah for with promotional video for the competition program “Trot X.”

It would be interesting to see EXO cover Tae Jin Ah’s ‘90’s track “Mother.”

Fantastic throwback songs EXO has already covered:
