G-Dragon Involved In Social Media-Drug Controversy After 'Molly' Photo Is Added To His Instagram Account

Big Bang leader G-Dragon has come under fire for a recent post on his Instagram account.

On October 2, G-Dragon (real name Kwon Ji Yong) was harshly criticized by the Korean media and his SNS followers after a picture was posted to his Instagram account, showing the nickname for a drug, "Molly," embedded in a heart.

The picture was removed shortly after commenters took offense, even though the image had no other information that may imply G-Dragon was using, or had ever used, the drug.

Drugs are highly illegal in South Korea, and this is not the first time that G-Dragon gained a lot of media attention for his relationship with drugs.

The 26-year-old rapper-producer had to halt promotions in 2011 after reportedly testing positive for marijuana. News reports stated while the Big Bang member had returned a negative urine sample, trace amounts of cannabis were detected after testing his hair.

The idol then explained through a statement released by his label, YG Entertainment, that he had been at a party and accepted a cigarette without realizing what sort of drugs were in it. YG revealed that he was reflecting on his actions, and because he was not charged G-Dragon didn't lose any endorsements as a result.

Molly is another name for MDMA, an ingredient in Ecstasy, and is both a stimulant and psychedelic. The effects cause a euphoric high, but can also lead to horrible depression once the side effects wear off. Molly is typically incredibly dangerous because it is a synthetic drug, which has unknown dosages of different toxins.

Fellow YG Entertainment member Park Bom of 2NE1 also came under fire earlier this year for allegedly having illegal drugs shipped from the US (where the drugs are not illegal.).

Commenters on Korean news site Nate harshly criticize YG Entertainment, saying things along the lines that YG's CEO needs to educate his idols more.

G-Dragon has referenced Molly on his social media accounts in the past, but always in reference to English-language songs.

There is no evidence that G-Dragon has ever taken Molly, or any drugs other than the marijuana incident in 2011.
