AOA's 'Amazing' Japanese Debut Single 'Miniskirt' Tops Music Charts A Day After Its Release

K-pop group AOA made their debut in Japan on October 1.

One day after the girls released their first single, "Miniskirt," in Japan, the idol group took the top slot on the country's charts.

AOA's title track for their Japanese debut album came in at No. 8 on the Oricon Single Daily Chart. The Japanese version of the "Miniskirt" music video also ranked No. 1 on the video-sharing site GyaO's Most Popular Video list, according to the Korean publication Osen Entertainment.

AOA has been able to rank in the top 10 on both charts due to the support of their Japanese fans. The Japanese music video for "Miniskirt" has garnered over 500,000 views on Universal Music Japan's YouTube page.

"Ooo I like this! I usually don't prefer Japanese versions of an original song but this is amazing. I love how it sounds in Japanese. The girls look beautiful," commented YouTube user KenDrizzle.

The popularity of "Miniskirt" can also be credited to the AOA promotions being done by Japanese music companies, including Tower Records. The Tower Records Shibuya location set up a panel exhibition for the idol group, showcasing photos of each of the members, according to the website AOA-official Japan

Aside from "Miniskirt," AOA's Japanese debut album includes their Korean hits "Short Hair" and "Get Out."

AOA made their initial step into the Japanese music industry with their performance during FNC Entertainment's family concert last year, where they first received mainstream attention from Japanese fans, according to the media outlet Star N News.

AOA became even more popular over the summer as they were the only girl group to perform at Japan's "a-nation" festival. Soon after their performance, the members were invited to perform at the "Tokyo Runway 2014" event as guest artists.

AOA teamed up with one of Japan's largest music corporations, Universal Music Japan, for their recent debut.

"We found AOA to be very distinct among all of the K-pop girl groups, and we saw huge potential in them," a representative for Universal Music Japan stated.
