The "Vampire Diaries" season 6 premiere episode synopsis reveals spoilers about what's to come for our favorite characters tonight. It reads: "Season 6 begins with Elena returning to Whitmore College for the start of sophomore year. Meanwhile, Caroline becomes desperate to reverse the anti-magic spell the Travelers put over Mystic Falls; Tyler has a run-in at a football tailgate; Matt worries that Jeremy is dealing with the loss of Bonnie in a self-destructive way; Alaric struggles to adjust to his new life as a vampire; and Elena learns the truth about what Stefan has really been up to."

As we previously reported, TVLine got the latest spoilers about "Vampire Diaries" season 6 and even watched a sneak peek of the premiere! Executive producer Caroline Dries also had a chat with TVLine, revealing what fans will need to know for next week.

1. "Damon's death will reveal a dangerous new side of Elena," TVLine writes.

2. Stefan is on the hunt for a witch who can talk to the dead, but in the meanwhile he's starting a new "life" with a new job... and a new girlfriend! "We get to learn what his process is as a vampire, starting over and living a different identity," Dries teased.

3. The flirtation between Tyler and Liv in the recent sneak peek video is not accidental.

4. Alaric is trying to rekindle a normal life for himself - as a resurrected Original vampire. "One of the problems he's going to be having is just how to go on a normal date and be a normal guy again," Dries said. Who better to "bring that side out of him" than Elena's pretty new doctor mentor Jo, played by "Prison Break" actress Jodi Lynn O'Keefe.

5. Caroline will suffer from unrequited love (and unreturned phone calls) from a preoccupied Stefan - as well as a new "place of residence" and a new mission: finding a way to take down that magical border.

6. Matt finds a new purpose in life with the Mystic Grill renovation - but Jeremy will be harder to tie down.

7. Though new series regular Michael Malarkey isn't in the "Vampire Diaries" season 6 premiere, he'll be back in Episode 2. "He is up to something that is on point with what's going on in the Damon/Stefan story," Dries teased.

8. The mystery of Damon and Bonnie's whereabouts will be addressed.

9. The word "Doppelganger" hasn't been uttered once in the season's first 10 episodes, Dries revealed. Instead, this season will "pepper in" the mythology, and witchy twins "Liv and Luke will play an important part" in that story.
