.Sony Xperia SP users can now install Android 4.4.4 KitKat update via a custom ROM!

A new custom firmware based on Google's latest mobile operating system has been released, allowing the Sony Xperia SP owners to install Android 4.4.4 KitKat update on their handset device.

Based on the specs list posted on GSM Arena, the latest and official update made available for the Sony Xperia SP is the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. But luckily, custom ROM developers were able to create a firmware based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat update compatible with the 2013 Sony smartphone.

Sony Xperia SP was announced March 2013 and it hit the market April of the same year.

Users can install Android 4.4.4 KitKat update on Sony Xperia SP using the CyanogenMod firmware or the CM11 M10 ROM.

According to a report on International Business Times, the new CM11 M10 custom ROM available for the Sony XPeria SP is based on Android Open Source Project or AOSP version 4.4.4 KitKat OS. The post further noted that the firmware is said to "...bring customisation options to boost device performance, new visual interface, easy access to key apps and loads of personalisation options..."

But prior to proceeding with the installation process, there are some requirements and conditions to satisfy first.

Install the appropriate USB drivers of the Sony Xperia SP on the computer so the Android device will easily connect with the PC during the process.

Make a backup of the data and settings stored on the Sony Xperia SP using either ClockWorkMod or TWRP. 

Make sure that the Sony Xperia SP has 80 percent battery level or more before installing Android 4.4.4 KitKat update.

Enable USB Debugging mode.
