October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and with it comes the campaign of famous music icons who have survived from that life-threatening disease. One of those breast cancer survivors is Melissa Etheridge who talked about her stand on The View talk show on Wednesday. She and Sheryl Crow also appeared in the cover of the AARP Health Magazine for the October-November issue.

"If I could have, I would have chosen not to go through cancer or my divorces in public. Yet you can't say, 'I'm only going to let the public see the good stuff.' Whenever I sit down with someone, I need to know that I'm not hiding anything."

It was a decade since the 53-year old rocker finally came out clean and alive from cancer, AARP stated. Further, she mentioned her separation from ex-partner Tammy Lynn Michaels in 2010 as also one event that could have dampened her joi de vivre, but successfully it did not.

Being a survivor, the I'm the Only One singer is also invited to talk in The View with Andy Cohen on Wednesday as she is remembered to have made a strong statement towards Angelina Jolie's mastectomy on June last year to prevent the BRCA1 cancer cells from entering her system.

A year later, the singer still reiterated her statement and expressed her opposition to the Tomb Raider's decision.

"I have never even, ever spoken to Angelina. I didn't mean that comment meanly. I certainly want to clear [that] up. I just felt that calling it brave was not something I would do. To cut healthy tissue off is fearful, cause you're fearful of getting something. Brave to me would be different. And that's all. People can do whatever they want. It's their bodies, their health," Etheridge said in the interview.

The Come To My Window singer claimed to have a special friendship with Brad Pitt as she had sung for Brad and Jennifer's wedding in 2005 but the two are said to lose contact since then.

She is currently married to Linda Wallem. The two got married in May this year.
