Perhaps since he's been working too hard, "Attack on Titan" creator Hajime Isayama had plenty of strange answers for fans in the latest Q&A in Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine. Whether it's exhaustion or his own sense of humor, Isayama certainly knows how to keep his fans guessing.

Today it was announced that out of all of the girls in "Attack on Titan's" 104th Survey Corps, Hajime Isayama thinks that Mikasa's closest female friend is Armin. In addition to this, when asked what titans might smell like, Isayama believes they have the distinct scent of hot springs towns in Japan.

"Out of all the women in the 104th, who is Mikasa closest to?" asked a fan in the most recent issues of Bessatsu Shonen Magazine (via Anime News Network).

"Attack on Titan" creator Hajime Isayama responded quite simply, "That'd be Armin."

The immediate reaction to such a response might be to think that Isayama has to be kidding, considering that up until now Armin was always thought to be a male character. Or so, that was until the anime adaptation chose to have his character voiced by female actress Marina Inoue.

Isayama, joking or not, may have just caused his fans to not only continue to question the gender of Armin. According to Rocket News 24, some fans are even questioning if it means that there may be a new romantic triangle between Eren, Mikasa, and Armin, if indeed Armin is a girl.

Whatever the case may be, based on the "Attack on Titan" creator's other responses to questions, it was all in good joking fun. Another fan asked him that since the character of "Mike can smell things, what do titans smell like?"

He replied, "The distinct smell of a hot springs town!"

With an answer like that, it's hard to believe that suddenly fans should be worried about the true gender of their beloved Armin. Nevertheless, "Attack on Titan" creator Hajime Isayama will have much work cut out for himself in the next volumes of the popular manga series if fans are to be convinced that Armin is indeed a girl instead of a boy.
