2NE1 Fans Wish For Group's Belated U.S. Debut After CL Announcement

Although 2NE1 fans (Blackjacks) are happy about CL's foray into the US market, the news is also calling into question if the group's long-discussed debut in the country will ever occur.

On October 15, Star News reported that Lee Chaerin a.k.a. CL of 2NE1 will be advancing into the US market next Spring with a single release. The news has ignited excitement and curiosity amongst 2NE1 fans.

"Great, but what happened to 2NE1's debut?" commented xxlolixx on allkpop.

In 2010, record label YG Entertainment documented 2NE1's recording sessions with Black Eyed Peas founder will.i.am, presumably for their American debut. Tthe group then released a number of English collaborations with the producer, including "Take the World On" and "Gettin' Dumb."

Since then, however, the group has said "there are no official plans to crossover" as of last year. But some Blackjacks believe CL's debut could in fact be the lead-in for the group's official entry into the US market.

"2NE1 making a US debut will not be successful right from the beginning," wrote Wussup_We_2ne1 on Thursday. "Having CL, already familiar with American artists and quite a few celebrities, gives her an advantage to making a US debut on her own."

"If anything, she's paving a pathway for 2NE1. She's putting herself out there in the market."

But this is not CL's first time entering the US market outside of 2NE1.

In August, CL and labelmate G-Dragon participated in filming the music video for "Dirty Vibe," a collaboration track with Skrillex for his latest album "Recess."

"After G-Dragon and CL were featured on Skrillex's new album track 'Dirty Vibe,' they also participated in the music video shoot," a YG Entertainment representative reportedly told the publication MyDaily.

"G-Dragon recently performed in North America's biggest Korean-Wave convention KCON, which was hosted by CJ E&M at Memorial Sports Arena located in Los Angeles. He will shoot the music of 'Dirty Vibe' there before coming back to Korea. CL will depart for the United States to take in the shooting of the music video too."
