YG Entertainment Says 2NE1 Disbandment Rumors Are 'Ridiculous'

When news broke on October 16 that 2NE1 leader CL would be making a her solo debut in the US, many fans of the group were elated.  Soon after, netizens began digging through the web of social media to discover a few unsettling changes to Minzy's Twitter and Instagram accounts and rumors began flying that the group may be on the brink of breaking up.

On October 17, however, 2NE1's record label YG Entertainment denied claims that the group is in peril.

"2NE1's disbandment is a ridiculous story," a representative for the company revealed in a statement to Korean news publication TenAsia.

Buzz of potential problems in the group swarmed after the announcement of CL's solo plans and an October 13 Instagram post from youngest member Minzy (Gong Minji) that read, "Things change, people change, places change, friends change, careers change, economies change, but God never changes."  Many followers also noted that "2NE1" was removed from Minzy's SNS profiles.

The singer's Twitter and Instagram accounts have since been adjusted to once again include the group's name and the YG rep told TenAsia her privacy settings on both platforms have also been updated.

There is currently no reason to believe that the changes made to Minzy's accounts were the result of by hacking or foul play, and the rep offered no other insight as to why she changed them in the first place.

The 2NE1 disbandment rumors followed recent news of lineup changes to three of K-Pop's other leading acts, EXO, Girls' Generation, and MBLAQ.
