American Horror Story Season 4 Star Angela Bassett Opens Up About Playing Three-Breasted Woman Character; Talks Feelings Of Being Outcast

"American Horror Story" season 4 star Angela Bassett is no stranger to portraying strong characters for film and television, but her role as Desiree Dupree proves to be a different kind of acting adventure for the seasoned artist.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bassett opened up about what it's like to play a three-breasted woman.

Answering the question of how different her new role is to the last one she played in the anthology series, Bassett shared, "Desiree is a more sensual character, more sexually up-front. When you've got three breasts, that goes straight to your sexuality ... the word 'desire' is part of her name. I'm hoping to play up a little more of that aspect."

She offered a little more insight on the character she's playing, saying: "She's a little conflicted, a little confused, but she's made the best of her life given the circumstances. She was rejected by her mother. Her mother had a great deal of shame concerning Desiree's existence."

Meanwhile, in an interview with Cosmopolitan, Bassett talked about the physical aspect of playing the character and shared the experience of having prosthetic breasts.

"None of it's real, all of it's prosthetic - I had the choice," she said when asked if any of the breasts seen on the show are hers. "I went to a prosthetic house somewhere in the Valley and they asked if I wanted them to make just one of did I want them to make all three. And of course I opted for more. More is always better."

She shared the procedure on how the breasts are glued on to her real breasts and whether she feels sexier with additional mammaries. "I actually feel sexier with the heels on [laughs]. As opposed to breasts," she revealed.

When asked if she will have any musical moments on "American Horror Story" season 4 as two of the cast members had already been seen performing songs on the show, she said "No songs for me. I can't really sing."

As for a personal experience of being an outcast, she shared, "Well, I've been black in America [laughs]. Being a female in aAmerica. Or being mature, being older in America. Or being young in America - in the world. Or if you're a woman making 77 cents on the dollar."
