miss A Jia Explains Her Initial Culture Shock Working In Korea With A Story About JYP

When miss A's Jia started her career in South Korea, she was not used to using honorifics when speaking to people older than her.

The native Chinese K-Pop singer was the guest on the October 20th episode of the SBS radio show 'Kim Chang Ryul's Old School.' During the show, Jia talked about culture shock she experienced when she first came to South Korea.

"In China, everybody gets along like friends," Jia said. "Even if you meet an elder, you greet simply."

Host Kim Chang Ryul asked her, "Was there ever a time you were flustered in Korea because you did not know Korean culture?" She explained that when she initially spoke to her record label's CEO, Park Jin Young, she used informal language and not honorifics. "At first, I replied to Jin Young Park informally."

"He asked me if I had eaten, so I replied informally, 'Yeah.' I didn't grasp the concept of formal speech and informal speech. My expression was confident, too, so I created misunderstandings."
