Stars React To Oscar de la Renta's Death: Taylor Swift, Naomi Campbell, Barbara Walters, The Clintons, And More Pay Tribute To Iconic Designer

Both Hollywood and the fashion world suffered a huge loss Monday evening, with the passing of the prolific Oscar de la Renta to lung cancer. The 82-year-old designer had spent the past five decades dressing Hollywood stars, first ladies, politicians and others from every walk of the public sphere. Since the news broke, stars have been sounding off on social media and in personal statements about how de la Renta touched their lives and influenced the way they dressed.

Naomi Campbell and Taylor Swift were among those who took to Twitter to pay their respects. Campbell linked an Instagram photo of herself in one of de la Renta’s runway shows, writing, “You made this a dream come true!! RIP TheGentlemanofFashion #Oscar de la Renta.” Swift tweeted, “My all-time favorite designer has passed away. Oscar, it was an honor to wear your creations and to know you. In loving memory.” 

Arianna Huffington also tweeted about the loss, writing, “So sorry to lose Oscar De La Renta today, an American fashion legend and philanthropist,” while stars like Alyssa Milano, Lucy Liu and Naya Rivera used the hashtage “#RIP Oscar de la Renta.” Supermodel Karlie Kloss, meanwhile, posted a photo of the designer on Instagram, with a caption reading, “The world lost one of the most extraordinary people that I have ever met. Thank you for helping me become the woman I am today and for always inspiring me to be better. There simply is no one else like you.”

Hillary and Bill Clinton released a joint stament on their website saying, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend, Oscar de la Renta. His singular talent and exquisite taste elevated American fashion, and his warmth and friendship will be missed by our family and all whose lives he touched in his extraordinary journey.” They continued, “We will always be grateful to Oscar for the love he showed us, and for sharing his talent on some of the most important occasions of our lives." 

Barbara Walters also issued a statement saying, “Oscar de la Renta was not just a creative and original artist he was also a great business man. He was most of all one of the wisest, kindest, and funniest friends you can have. All of us who had the pleasure of knowing him have aching hearts today. Our thoughts are with his beloved Annette.”
