K-Pop Crossover: Justin Bieber's Manager Scooter Braun 'Says Hello' To CL Before Solo Debut

What do Justin Bieber and 2NE1's CL have in common? The answer: Scooter Braun.

Known for managing Justin Bieber, Psy, Ariana Grande and Carly Rae Jepsen, Braun will reportedly work with CL for her US debut in the Spring. Recently on Twitter, Braun teased their new partnership by mentioning CL on the social media portal.

"Ready?" asked the 33-year-old talent manager at the 2NE1 leader. Within a few hours, this simple tweet garnered over 2,000 retweets and 1,600 favorites.

"All you need to break through in America is to get consistent airplay," commented TheKpopper2 on allkpop. "That means promoting the hell out of your single in just a handful of major American markets. Once LA and NY bites, Chicago, Houston, Detroit will fall."

"But you have to promote promote promote. That means showing up on the biggest radio stations around the country. You don't grease the DJs with a visit; they don't keep playing your song. The more they play, the higher you climb. The higher you climb, the more appearances you get on TV shows. But yeah, you have to be able to speak English first and foremost. You want to break into the biggest market on the planet you have to have the right tools, no fumbling around with basic grammar, etc. From what I've seen, CL looks like she has the tools to succeed."

In addition to CL, her group 2NE1 is also receiving media attention recently.

On October 20, Billboard reported that radio stations in New York and Boston have begun playing 2NE1's "I Am the Best" after the track received global attention by being used in a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 tablet laptop commercial.

In the week ending October 19, the anthemic 2NE1 single was reportedly 24 times on WBMP New York and 14 times on WODS Boston. In addition, "I Am the Best" recently topped Billboard's World Digital Songs chart and reached 100 million views on YouTube.
