Despite the condition of his health, Oscar De La Renta made sure to actively participate in George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin's wedding. The iconic fashion designer passed away last October 20 at the age of 82 and his final project was believed to be Alamuddin's wedding dress - an ivory tulle gown.

Recently, the bride's mother Baria Alamuddin recalled how De La Renta still attended the gown's fitting even if he was feeling unwell.

"Yes he was, he was in every fitting and he was actively involved. I remember one time we walked to the fitting and he, we almost came into the design studio together, and he was on a wheelchair," she told BBC World Service's Newshour.

"My heart went out to him and he said, 'I haven't been well, I was in the hospital'. And basically he walked in with us and walked out with us," she added.

The news of Oscar De La Renta's death might be sad but for Mrs. Alamuddin, they would treasure the memory of his design: "It really gave it that extra place and pleasure and of course this is going to remain with us all our loves and that, that was the last wedding dress that he had designed."

In September, Vogue published a story about Amal Alamuddin's wedding dress fitting with De La Renta.The human-rights lawyer describes him as a "man every woman wants to hug."

In the same interview, the iconic designer also talked about how he came up with the design for Clooney's then fiancée:

"It's the most important dress in the life of a woman," he said. "Any girl from any walk of life dreams of that special dress, and I try to make that dream a reality for her. Amal and I looked at a lot of evening dresses and wedding dresses together, and we discussed what she liked. That gave me the idea of what she wanted."

The exact cause of Oscar De La Renta's death was not revealed although he was diagnosed with cancer in 2006.
