'Jem And The Holograms' Release Date: 'GI Joe: Retaliation' Director Takes The Helm; Juliette Lewis To Star In Mystery Role

Latest Jem and the Holograms' release date news revealed that the popular cartoon series will launch on October 23, 2015. 

In a report by CNN.com, Jon Chu will be directing, who is also well known for his directorial work on another 1980s cult cartoon series "G.I. Joe Retaliation". In March 2014, Chu announced that they were conducting an online talent search for roles in the upcoming Jem movie. Fans were asked to submit audition videos via the internet. The filmmakers further asked fans to provide creative input to help shape the story. 

The film will be released by Universal Pictures which announced the official Jem and the Holograms' release date.

Jem and the Holograms' release date also presented that the cartoon was quite popular among children almost three decades ago. In a report by LA Times, the live-action film is based on Hasbro's 1980s animated series. Jem is a young woman who has a secret life doubling as a rock star. Jem has an all-girl band called the Holograms who were usually arguing with another all-girl band, the Misfits. 

In a report by InsideMovies.com, Jem will be played by Aubrey Peeples, who appeared in Nashville and Sharknado. It was also revealed that actresses Juliette Lewis and Molly Ringwald will appear in the upcoming movie. Lewis's and Ringwalds roles have not yet been announced.

Jon M. Chu will also be directing "The Conjuring 2", which reportedly is also set to release on the same date as Jem and the Holograms. Stefanie Scott, Aurora Perrineauand Hayley Kiyoko will be part of the horror sequel. They also happen to be the other members of Jem's all-girl band. They help Jem in her endeavors, playing the roles of Aja, Kimber and Shana. 

Jon Chu is expected to make good work of the cartoon classic-based film just as he did with G.I. Joe.
