NBA Trade Rumors: Tobias Harris To Los Angeles Lakers? Orlando Magic Rising Star Will Allegedly Receive Bonus From Nike If He Transfers To Big Market!

The NBA trade rumors continue to spring out of nowhere. Tobias Harris is a rising star with the Orlando Magic, becoming the best piece that the team got from the Dwight Howard trade. He was a borderline All-Star and that also increased his star value.

Harris is eligible for a contract extension with the Magic but he has reportedly refused to sign the offer even when he told the Orlando Sentinel that he wants to stay:

"Obviously, I want to be here. ... I love the fans, the city of Orlando and the guys. Management knows I want to be here. It's the perfect situation for me."

Now he is a key endorser for Nike, projected as one of their rising stars. There are already rumors that the shoe companies want their endorsers in big markets. According to ESPN's Chris Broussard, that is in play here:

NBC Sports then raised the questions on Broussard's claim:

"Key question: How long does Harris' Nike contract run? How much more does it pay him to play in New York, Chicago or Los Angeles?

If he doesn't sign an extension with the Magic, Harris will be a restricted free agent after the season, meaning they can match any offer he receives. So even if the Knicks, Bulls, Lakers or Clippers want him and signs him to an offer sheet, Orlando could match it - and, presumably, prevent him from getting the Nike bonus.

If Harris' Nike contract runs through 2016-17 and his big-city raise is high enough, maybe he'd consider taking his qualifying offer and becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2016 - right when the new national TV deals are set to lift the salary cap. Then, he'd have more control over getting to New York, Chicago or Los Angeles - though a team in one of those cities would still have to sign him."

The trade rumors emerged because of Harris' restricted free agency. Orlando has a right to match whatever offer so the Lakers--who need rising stars. The Magic could ask for Julius Randle but the Lakers probably won't give him up. Let's see how this develops.
