SMTOWN, Influential Enough to be a Nation of Its Own

Yesterday afternoon, a new nation that was never on the map before was newly created at the Seoul Olympic Gymnasium. The citizens of this new nation consisted of approximately 40,000 fans with various cultural backgrounds who gathered together for "SM Music".

The SM ceremony that took place on the 18th of August resembled the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. Fans from nations like Spain, Brunei, Kazakhstan, Poland as well as 26 others gathered in Seoul to show support for the artists of SM Entertainment. The representatives of each country entered the gymnasium at the beginning of the concert while holding the flags of their country. The last flag that appeared into the gymnasium was the "Music Nation SMTOWN" flag.

Kangta and BoA sang anthem and the SM flag was raised. There was a connection among the people that were present at the concert. It was the connection shared by the people who gathered for SM's music.

After the ceremony for the creation of the new SM nation, the artists of SM Entertainment got down to business.

Kim Min Jong, BoA, TVXQ, Super Junior, Girls' Generation, SHINee, f(x), EXO, and more appeared at the concert on Sunday. This year's concert consisted of performances created by internationally recognized K-Pop artists. The concert was created by A-class celebrities of K-Pop which was an issue big enough to become a TV show of its own.

The concert consisted of special collaboration performances as well as fan services that only SM artists could pull off. Sisters Jessica of Girls' Generation and Krystal of f(x) performed Katy Perry's "California Girls" together and Changmin of TVXQ, Super Junior's Kyuhyun and SHINee's Taemin performed "Just the Way You Are" by Bruno Mars. At the end of the concert, all the SM artists appeared on stage together to sing along to legendary idol group H.O.T.'s "Hope" to conclude the event.

During the concert, each group performed under 5 songs. However, since there were so many popular A class stars, the running time for the concert was over 5 hours. SM artists performed a total of 51 songs. This year's "SMTOWN Live Concert in Seoul" seemed to reveal the 17-year-long history of SM Entertainment, which was created back in 1995.

Last May, "SMTOWN Live World Tour III" began in LA and moved on to Taipei and Tokyo, followed by Seoul. On September 22, "SMTOWN Live World Tour III" will head to Jakarta to perform in front of 50,000 fans.
