Cream Bassist Jack Bruce Dies At Age 71, Eric Clapton Remembers His Former Bandmate In Heartfelt Message

Jack Bruce, the bassist to 60's rock supergroup Cream, has passed away at the age of 71.

The legendary Scottish bassist and singer reportedly died at his home in England on Saturday, surrounded by his family.

According to E! News, no cause of death for the musician has been released to the public. However, Bruce did battle liver cancer over ten years ago and underwent a near-fatal transplant at the time.

Bruce's loved ones confirmed the news on Facebook, posting a message for his countless fans.

"It is with great sadness that we, Jack's family, announce the passing of our beloved Jack: husband, father, granddad, and all round legend," wrote the musician's family members.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Margrit, five children, and one granddaughter.

Bruce's former band, Cream, also included renowned blues/rock singer Eric Clapton and drummer Ginger Baker.

The trio was famous for their psychedelic, blues rock sound which was embodied in songs like "Sunshine of Your Love" and White Room."  

Clapton took to Facebook on Saturday to address the death of his former bandmate.

"It is with great sadness that we learned that Jack Bruce had passed away this morning at his home in England. He was a great musician and composer, and a tremendous inspiration to me," wrote Clapton.

He also added, "The world of music will be a poorer place without him, but he lives on in his music and forever in our hearts."

Countless members of the music industry are now remembering Bruce via social media.

Two members of Ozzy Osbourne's band Black Sabbath took to Twitter to express their condolences.

"So sad to hear of Jack Bruce passing," wrote Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler. "My biggest influence and favorite bass player. Thank you, Jack. RIP."

"Very sad to hear of the passing of Jack Bruce, a major influence in music and an amazing bass player and singer," said Tony Iommi, the band's guitarist. "He was a hero to so many."
