BrandsOnSale's Newly Unveiled 'Sexy Ebola Nurse' Halloween Costume Infuriates Netizens; Company CEO Believes People Shouldn’t Be Too Serious

Costume company BrandsOnSale is currently facing backlash for releasing its "sexy Ebola nurse" costume. Twitter users reacted to the untimely release of the costume considering that the Ebola outbreak is still causing deaths in West Africa.

The description of the "sexy Ebola nurse" costume reads:

"The deadly Ebola virus has landed in the United States and the crisis has reached new levels of domestic escalation. You are sure to be prepared if any outbreak happens at your Halloween party. This will literally be the most 'viral' costume of the year."

The company, however, has a disclaimer that the costume is not to be used as a real preventative suit. Some of the reactions read:

"Can't believe that companies like @brandsonsale are cashing in on the Ebola outbreak. It is not fun to the people who are dying out there!" - @Quizbritain
"Ebola Halloween costume. How sick can some people get?" - @bcleeve

Advocate Jamie Lambert (@JamieCollabro) believes the company should say sorry for the costume: "Thinks @brandsonsale need to issue a public apology for their appalling Ebola suit Halloween costume, degrading to those who have suffered."

As netizens continue to brand the "sexy Ebola nurse" costume as inappropriate, BrandsOnSale CEO Johnathon Weeks believes that Halloween is a one-day event which should not be taken seriously.

In an interview with The Atlantic, Weeks said: "It's Halloween, it's one day, if people are that serious about it, they don't know what Halloween is about."

He claims that the company does not "stray away from anything controversial." At the height of the Chilean mining incident, Weeks claim that his company sold hundreds of mining helmets.

This year, apart from the much criticized Ebola garb, BrandsOnSale is likewise selling Joan Rivers wigs and Ice Bucket Challenge costumes.

Several costume shops like New York City's Ricky's have chosen not to sell the Ebola costume.
