Pink Floyd's David Gilmour To Release Solo LP; Legendary Rock Band To Say Goodbye?

Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour is set to release a solo album next year.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Pink Floyd's David Gilmour spoke of his follow-up work to 2006's "On An Island."

"It's coming along very well," he told the publication. "There are some sketches that aren't finished, and some of them will be started again. There's a few months' work in it yet."

He added, "I'm hoping to get it out this following year. Then I'm hoping to do an old man's tour, not a 200-date sort of thing."

Pink Floyd has announced that their latest album "Endless River," their first since 1994, will be their last.

Gilmour spoke of not continuing with the band, saying: "I'm really really enjoying my life and my music. There's no room for Pink Floyd. The thought of doing any more causes me to break out in a cold sweat."

Drummer Nick Mason, however, said he still hopes his pal will change his mind about Pink Floyd saying goodbye. "I believe when I'm dead and buried," said Mason about when the band would stop. "My tombstone will read: 'I'm not entirely sure the band's over."

Mason also discussed in a recent interview how improbable it is to tour the "Endless River" album.

"[The album] doesn't actually lend itself to a proper tour," Mason said. "It's something that you could play in UFO Club in 1967, it certainly isn't a stadium sort of event, and without Rick it's probably impossible." Rick Wright, the band's keyboardist, died in 2008 from cancer.

"It's impossible to play because the nature of it is that a lot of it is designed there and then - if one played it again, you wouldn't want to repeat what was on the record. It's not something where you learn it and play it," he added.

While the possibility of Pink Floyd continuing without David Gilmour is still uncertain, fans can still enjoy "The Endless River" which will be out in stores on November 10.
