Upcoming Samsung Phones 2014: The Galaxy A Lineup Finally Announced, Would It Cater To The Mass Market?

Samsung is clearly pleased to get everyone's attention now that its upcoming Samsung phones for 2014 are made with metal frames instead of the cheap plastic of yesteryears.

The Korean manufacturer has just made its new Galaxy A lineup official. While the family is made up of only two smartphones for now, both feature dimensions and designs similar to the Galaxy Alpha which was announced a couple of months back to rival the iPhone 6.

First up is the A5 which is the midrange version of the Alpha. The Android-powered smartphone boasts a 5-inch Super AMOLED display with HD (1280 x 720) resolution, 2GB of RAM and 16GB on-board storage.

There is also a quad-core CPU clocked at 1.2GHz for processing chores and the entire phone is run by Samsung's Touch Wiz UI on top of Android 4.4 Kit Kat.

At the back of the device is a 13MP primary camera and there is a 5MP front shooter for selfies. The smartphone is powered by a 2,300mAh battery and there's a microSD card slot for storage expansion.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy A3 is the more affordable handset and may be considered entry-level by some folks. The Samsung smartphone packs a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display for crisper colors, but only has a qHD (960 x 540) resolution, which may not please most people.

Fortunately, there is still enough processing power to run most apps with the help of a quad-core CPU and 1GB of RAM. There is a an 8GB internal memory as well as an 8MP primary camera. Thankfully, Samsung retained the 5MP front camera for selfies and video calls.

While the new Galaxy A5 and A3 look promising, pricing details for both devices have not been revealed yet.
